The definition of effervescent is an adjective that means vivacious and enthusiastic. If a picture of a person was also seen in the dictionary under that word, you would see the face of Everlecia Taylor.
I had the pleasure of meeting Everlecia for the first time at our Toastmasters Speakers By The Sea club. When she walked into her first meeting she lite up the room with her smile. She didn’t know anyone there, but it didn’t take long for her to become very comfortable in her surroundings and to begin her growth process of improving her public speaking.
She didn’t know what she wanted to do with her life when she was in high school. She was an exceptional student and was planning on a college career but that wasn’t going to happen. Instead, she took a huge leap of faith and moved across the country from Tampa, Florida to Hollywood, California in search of becoming successful.
But successful at what? What is success and how do you measure it? She is a beautiful woman and marketed herself as a model. While that was a measure of success as she did this on her own without an agent; this wasn’t the direction she wanted to pursue.
Who was successful and how did they reach that level of satisfaction in their own lives? Thus, began Everlecia’s journey by starting with herself and figuring out what she wanted. Self-forgiving and personal reflecting was her starting point.
She looked to Maya Angelou’s definition of success as her guiding principle. “Success is liking yourself, liking what you do, and liking how you do it.”
It worked. At age 21 Everlecia published her first book. Learn about her tools for success.
While this book is especially helpful for students, parents can also find inspiration as they learn from Everlecia’s personal journey.
This book is a great starting point for an important conversation. I’m excited to have Everlecia join me on my Born To Talk radio show, this Monday, October 31st. I know what you’re thinking, it’s Halloween! Indeed, it is, but there will be no tricks only treats!
Check us out from 1-2 PT where you can watch and listen on www.latalklive.com and www.ustream.tv/channel/la-talk-live
She has a story to tell and I’m thrilled to share it with all of you!
