Jessica Lizel Cannon will be my guest on The Born To Talk Radio Show Podcast on March 13th from 1-2PT.
Meet Jessica.
Jessica holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Management and a Bachelor of Science in Accounting with a Certified Public Accountant license. She is also a Certified Dementia Practitioner, Dementia Support Facilitator, Author, and Podcast host of The Proactive Caregiver.
In 2009, Jessica stepped into the role of the part-time caregiver for her mother. By 2016 she was providing full-time care. After becoming a dementia caregiver for her mother, who lives with manic-depressive bipolar disorder and mixed forms of dementia, Jessica became a Certified Dementia Practitioner.
Dementia.
According to the CDC, dementia is not a specific disease but is rather a general term for the impaired ability to remember, think, or make decisions that interferes with doing everyday activities. Alzheimer’s disease is the most common type of dementia. Though dementia mostly affects older adults, it is not a part of normal aging. You may be wondering, is preventing dementia possible?
Proactive Caregiver.
Jessica specializes in educating others on how to be a Proactive Caregiver by focusing on the caregiver, rather than the recipient.
She will tell you, “If you can’t take care of yourself, then you cannot take care of your loved one.”
This caregiving journey compelled Jessica to provide hope to others as the author of “The Proactive Caregiver, Stop Reacting to Life and Start Living Proactively.”
“The Proactive Caregiver book will inspire caregivers surrounded by the darkness of fear, and anxiety, and instead, overwhelm them with the light of acceptance and empowerment.” It will encourage you to be a healthier caregiver. And at the same time teach you to appreciate the role model you have become as a caregiver for your children, causing a cultural shift.
Jessica’s book is for caregivers of all ages, with loved ones living with dementia or suspecting behavioral changes.
In Closing.
Creating a cultural shift in preventing dementia instead of overreacting or medicating is her mission now. Jessica believes other caregivers will find empowerment while navigating the darkness of financial, emotional, and lifestyle stress experienced by caring for their loved ones.
