Joe and Gayle will be my special guests on my Born To Talk radio show on Monday, June 19th.
We will be live from 1-2PT on LATalkLive and UStream for your listening and viewing pleasure.
About 20 years ago, I met Joe while I was working at the Westchester YMCA in Los Angeles. We both worked out in the morning each day, the difference was, Joe came back in the afternoon and did another workout.
He was focused and determined then and continues to live a purposeful life full of travel and adventure.
I’m meeting his friend Gayle for the first time. She is a 12th grade English teacher at Rolling Hills Preparatory school in Palos Verdes.
Joe has been all over the world. He’s been to every continent, 30 countries and all 50 states. The question might be where hasn’t he been?
Joe as a member of the Sierra Club since 1970, has climbed all the peaks in California that are over 14,000 feet. He’s the ultimate volunteer. He has contributed to YMCA every year and participated in feeding the homeless in skid row for the past 32 years.
In 2003, Joe began to travel the world with Earthwatch. This international environmental charity brings individuals from all walks of life together with world-class scientists to work for the good of the planet.
Their vision is a world in which we live within our means and in balance with nature.
We will be talking about how Joe and Gayle met and why they choose to go Uganda. This was Gayle’s first Earthwatch trip. I’m anxious to hear why she decided to go and what it was like to be with the chimpanzees at the Budongo Conservation Field Station.
You may just want to book your own travel adventure once you hear their stories.
