Thank you Pam Frieden for joining me on the Born To Talk Radio Show Podcast. Pam is the Executive Director of the Culver Palms Meals on Wheels.
Culver Palms Meals on Wheels is a volunteer-based non-profit serving approximately 40 square miles on the west side of the Los Angeles basin. They have been delivering hot or frozen meals to homebound people since 1974.
Volunteer Opportunities.
Deliver meals to our seniors and others confined in their homes.
Drivers (Must be 18 years of age and have a valid driver’s license & car insurance)
Assistants (Must be able to climb stairs)
Office Work.
Wellness calls to our clients
Telephone answering and other clerical assistance
Students.
They welcome students seeking community service hours. Age restrictions do not apply when accompanied by a parent.
Ways to Donate.
All Meals on Wheels depend on generous donations from their communities. While most of their clients pay a nominal fee for meals, they offer a sliding scale for those who cannot afford to contribute. Also, they do not receive direct federal funding. To keep client fees to a minimum, they rely on the generosity of donors. You could consider adopting a person in need for a day, week, month, or year.
Pam’s Takeaways.
“When you get involved with Culver Palms Meals on Wheels or any Meals on Wheels organization in the United States, you will deliver more than daily nourishment. You will be providing friendship to those who spend their days alone. You will deliver independence, allowing people to age in their homes where they want to be with dignity. And most importantly, you will be giving hope to those often forgotten.”
“Please consider volunteering your time, referring someone who needs help, or donating. No matter how you get involved, you’ll deliver more than meals.”
“You can contact your local Area on Aging or Meals on Wheels America to find the meal program in your area. If you live on the west side of Los Angeles, please contact Culver Palms Meals on Wheels. We are all here to help you.”
