I don’t know how much time you spend in front of a computer/tablet or smart phone…but I can tell you…I spend a ton of time in front of one of these windows each day.
When an electrical smell from a fried DVR required me to unplug everything in my office, there went my router and my “swim” box, that’s the Direct TV box that powers all the TVs.
I was freaking out. First because I didn’t know for certain what caused the problem that burnt out the DVR and I was alerted that I needed to prevent any possible electrical fire. That got my attention!
Taking a deep breath and realizing that help would be coming, I had no other choice, but to read. I suppose this was some devine intervention. If you know anything about me, reading is not high on my to do list. You may also know that I am in a monthly book club. I too wonder about that at times!
I was determined to beat the odds, and finish all 368 pages of The Invention of Wings, by Sue Monk Kidd. Believe it or not, I actually read two of her other books, including The Secret Life of Bees and the Mermaid Chair. I must say, this book, held my attention and I would recommend it.
I’m also pleased to say, that my electronic issues were resolved by 5:00pm on Friday and I still managed to stay away from the computer, just to see if I could do it.
One of the things I decided to do was spend money!! Yep, that will cure anything, right? I made my regular Costco list, the pharmacy, etc…But it was my first stop that got the ball rolling!
A new camera!!! Yes indeed, some people choose to spend their money on trips, oh wait, I do that, some people choose to spend their money on clothes, oops, I do that too. Some people like to go out to eat, yikes, I’m 3 for 3…But how many of you buy a camera once a year???
Can’t this be a business expense at some point??? Whatever the reason, if 20x zoom takes great pictures…just imagine what 30x zoom can do!! Yes, I got the newest version of the same camera, from Panasonic. I’m not ready to give up on the point and shoot style of photography.
Why, because I don’t want to use a view finder. Until I am willing to put a camera view finder up against my glasses, I will continue to use a point and shoot. Yes, I know the pitfalls. Point and shoots are not designed to be used as extensively as I use mine. I’ve come to find out the continuous opening and closing of the lens, regardless if it is kept in a case, provides the opportunity for dust to sneak in and sneak in it does!
But check out what I took on day one with my new camera!!!
I figured the settings were pretty much the same, just more zoom! I know the black bird is a starling…the other…I classify as one of the many “cute little brown birds!” The little bit of yellow makes me think it’s a female finch of some variety!
The gold finches are also hanging out. The funny thing, I was so “focused” on the finch on the left, I didn’t realize until I uploaded my pictures, that I had a “two-fer.”
But, it’s the humming birds!! They are just a joy to watch, right down to the drop of water on its beak.
My flowers and fountain makes the perfect setting for these little guys.
Loving my new camera…Day two was just as exciting…this time, it’s about the wasp nest located in the eaves of a house in Pasadena. They’re actually quite beautiful, not sure I want to cuddle up next to one, though. The large nest, looked vacant, but they were busy starting some new ones just a few inches away.
Yep, there was a bonus dead spider as well. No one was living in this house and that’s a good thing!
After hanging around in Pasadena, we were hungry and went to Tops, a burger stand that opened in 1953. Had a great burger, but it was the hungry “diner” waiting for a handout that caught my fancy!
This peahen, I came to find out, is a regular…not the least bit interested in my picture taking and was frankly just a bit disappointed that I didn’t have any food. She was just hoping someone would open the door!
Since she wasn’t finding any success, I guess she thought perhaps bowing would generate some attention!!
But at the end of the day, she just looked at me with a hopeful look. Sorry, no leftovers for you sweet pea!
You don’t suppose she is mad, do you? Her head feathers are a bit out of whack! I get it though.
What started out as a pretty scary Thursday morning, with the possibility of an electrical fire, turned out to be a false alarm, thankfully! I read the entire book, before Monday.
Buying a really cool new camera and having great photo oppotunities, I’m pretty darn lucky!! And therefore, I will just keep humming along!! Waiting to see what’s next in my world.
Good Night!
