You can’t go to the Inn on Newfound Lake, and not take the drive to Polly’s Pancake House in Sugar Hill. It’s about 45 minutes of gorgeous scenery with the prize of eating a great breakfast. Yes, they are known for their incredible pancakes, but I was feeling rebellious and had a waffle and bacon, a few more pieces would have been perfect! They don’t have a liquor license, or I can assure you I would have had a Bloody Mary to wash this down!
Time to start our last day as we continue to be “leaf peepers” on our 10th day together. You just never know what you’re going to see. I couldn’t help myself when I saw this building.
The Carolina Crapo Memorial building in Sugar Hill, New Hampshire which holds the Town Offices, Library and Police Department. I know what you’re thinking, I thought the same thing.
We mosyed on down the road, poor Shari; she did all the driving which ended up being over 1,500 miles. We covered a lot of ground over the states of Massachusettes, New York, Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine. We continued to ooh and ah as she kept her eyes on the road and didn’t pull out her camera.
On this day we headed to the famous Mt. Washington Hotel in Bretton Woods, located in the White Mountains. It was built in 1881. If this looks familiar to you, it’s because it is similar to the Del Coronado Hotel built in 1888 in San Diego, CA.
The difference is, in New England, they have these trees!
I must admit, we travelled along the Franconia Notch and the Kancamangus Highway; both are spectacular, but I am not sure where one stopped and the other started. Notice the tiny little houses within the trees! Can you just imagine what they must see out their windows!
This sign didn’t really apply to us, as we continued to eat our food completely!
As we left the Kanc, we stopped for a little nourishment. I’m travelling with ice cream aficionados, a nice little appetizer before dinner.
And just like that, all the planning, packing, unpacking, driving, eating, sightseeing was just about over. Most friends are not as lucky as us. We appreciate and care very much for each other. We each bring our special qualities together and embrace the friendships that have flourished for over 35 years.
This picture was taken by a passing customer going into Polly’s, of the 4 of us.
Our last night together had a dazzling sunset.
Bye buddies…can’t wait for our next trip!!For me, I have 2 more weeks worth of photos and stories to share, as I remained at my happy place. At The Inn on Newfound Lake.
