Charity Event

When was the last time you went to a Charity Event, where the photographers were taking pictures of you as if you were a VIP?

Well, until last night I hadn’t had that experience either.  Turns out, I was included along with my guest; to not only watch a runway show, but also to be photographed prior to the models walking the cat walk, by the paparazzi.

First they announced our names; I’m doing my best to hold it together.  It reminded me of the movie a long time ago with Sandra Bullock, Miss Congeniality where she was supposed to participate in a beauty pageant, but she was really an undercover FBI agent and appeared to be very awkward.

Well, I’m far from the model scene, but you know I am a radio talk show host, and I was there to hob knob and pass out some cards.

It’s true; I was one of the very few women not in a short tight black dress with heels that could substitute for a weapon.  No I was there in my conservative attire with a pair of heels, which were killing me after standing for several hours.

The funny thing about that was, it really doesn’t matter your age, 2 hipster millennials finally sat down facing me and their collective sigh, made we realize the sisterhood of the shoes!

The designers were David Meister and Sk Kimomo, all one of a kind designs. There were 12 models that moved down the runway.  I felt like I was on a shoot for Project Runway and pretending like I was Heidi Klum.  Yes it was an evening of pretend!! Heidi is so much taller than me.  Carmen Electra was the host, of the event. She’s taller than me as well.

Speaking of that, I honestly don’t realize just how short I am. I need to start sitting in a chair with my male radio guests and friends as a bit of an equalizer. It’s ridiculous.

There was also a jazz singer and trumpet player that sang between the designers showcases. Courtney Fortune was equally entertaining.

Here is the point of this charity, because remember that’s really I was there. Halcyon Dermatology and Genlux Magazine were recognizing their newest publication by featuring fashion meets philanthropy.Dr. Kathy Lee, M.D. is the founder of the outreach program, En Plein Air, translated; Into The Open Air.  She is a Board Certified, Diplomate of the American Board of Dermatology and a fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology.  Her interests include medical and pediatric dermatology, lasers, ethnic skin, and cosmetic dermatology. Her office was one of the sponsors. The inspiration around her program started when a childhood friend’s mother was fighting a long battle with breast cancer.  Dr Lee’s friend wanted to create a visual art project titled En Plein Air in her memory.

Dr. Lee’s expertise as a dermatologist enables her to help patients battle back by making their scars disappear into thin air. Whether they are recovering from surgeries, burns or other conditions, she is providing the service free of charge, to those who qualify, the help of painless effective, laser treatments.

Just knowing that she is willing to go the extra mile to help improve someone else’s life is admirable.  I hope to have her as a guest on my show this fall, to hear more about her inspiring charity and her vision for helping others.

I’m back to wearing my jeans, converse and a cute top. Now, that’s my fashion statement!

Stay tuned for more fun next week.
