Joining me on my Born To Talk Radio Show Podcast is Cynthia Schumacher. She is an author, a retired teacher and an education activist.
Meet Cynthia Schumacher.
To begin with, Cynthia Schumacher earned her BA and MA in English, graduating Phi Beta Kappa. Her 33 years of teaching were interrupted when she became an activist in 1968. As a result, she lost her job. However, she returned to another school in 1970. In addition, Cynthia went on to become a Teacher of the Year in her county. In another year she was a finalist for the same award. Cynthia was chosen by the Florida Education Association, and approved by the Florida Senate, as one of the classroom teachers to rewrite the Code of Ethics and the Principles of Professional Conduct for the state of Florida.
Prose Pizza.
Prose Pizza is a charming, thoughtful collection of nine stories that reveal the extraordinary layers beneath ordinary lives. Cynthia explores private desires, social expectations, small rebellions and moments. They can be quiet or sudden. The book uses the metaphor of pizza to represent the many “slices” or perspectives on life, marriage, and individual behavior. It offers readers a variety of short, thoughtful pieces. These stories, originally written 60 years ago, represent the slices of life. Choose your piece and enjoy!

Soul Flowers.
Soul Flowers is a poetry collection using a variety of rhymed and unrhymed formats. Cynthia is known for her interest in discovering through poetry the universal qualities of human experience. Subsequently, this provides enjoyable and accessible “word music” designed to appeal to dedicated poetry lovers and to others who might like to be.
Cynthia’s Takeaways.
“Whether you read my poetry or my stories I use diverse subject matter. They are varied writing techniques and emotional responses to life. I try to make accessible to the reader the endless possibilities of using language to express the interior existence. They are seemingly inexpressible ideas of human thought which connect us to other people across the ages. In this way the reader is left free to discover a timeless kinship with other individuals. Therefore, they have also found familiarity in my words.”
In Closing.
True to the book’s own playful description Prose Pizza offers slices of life that vary in tone and style. They come together as a coherent, nourishing and whole. Above all, there is something here for every reader. Subsequently, all the stories feel baked from the same imaginative dough. It’s a collection that invites reflection, rewards attention and lingers pleasantly. Lastly, they are just like a meal shared with good company.
