Joining me on my Born To Talk Radio Show Podcast this week is Christopher Jefferson. He is the Chief Program Officer for the YMCA of Metropolitan Los Angeles.
Meet Christopher Jefferson.
To begin with, Christopher Jefferson is a seasoned nonprofit leader. Christopher has more than two decades of experience. This includes, advancing youth development, community programs, and equitable access to opportunity across Los Angeles County. As the Chief Program Officer at the YMCA of Metropolitan Los Angeles, he leads the strategic vision and operational execution of the organization’s programmatic portfolio. The particular focus is on expanding meaningful opportunities for youth and families to thrive.
Chris’s leadership is grounded in a deep commitment to youth engagement, belonging, and equity. He has played a central role in shaping the YMCA of Metropolitan Los Angeles’s youth development strategy, known as Cradle to Community Well-Being. The emphasizes is on holistic support across the life span. This is from early childhood into young adulthood. Under his guidance, this framework informs programming design, partnerships, and measurable outcomes. As a result, it strengthens individuals and communities bringing well-being throughout Los Angeles County.
Get Summer!

Summer will be here before you know it. There is an incredible program called Get Summer at Y centers across LA. Programs vary across the centers. Here’s what’s incredible, it’s free, they just have to activate their membership.
Christopher’s Takeaways.
The Cradle to Community Well-Being framework reflects the truth by recognizing that education, health, connection, and opportunity are deeply interconnected. And at the same time, it is shaped by the environments young people experience every day. It centers on 27+ Centers for Community Well-Being. For example, programs in mental health, food security (FeedLA), youth sports, and career mentorship to foster equity across LA.
Belonging is not a feeling that happens by chance. Therefore all of it is created through intentional spaces, caring adults, and communities that show up consistently. However, when young people experience belonging, they are more likely to engage, persist, and imagine a future where they see themselves reflected. When adults, organizations, and communities work together with shared purpose and accountability, young people are better supported not just to succeed, but to feel seen, valued, and supported as they move through life.
In closing.
Throughout his career, Chris has built collaborative relationships with educators, public agencies, community organizations, and families. His intent is to remove systemic barriers and expand access to high-quality experiences for all youth. Above all, his work reflects a belief that community well-being is collective, interdependent, and strengthened through intentional inclusion. Including, shared leadership, and respect for every person’s unique journey.
Most recently, Chris launched the YOU BELONG Foster Youth Initiative. This is a partnership with LAUSD and DCFS to provide free YMCA memberships. This includes access and wraparound services to youth in foster care, ages 12-26.
