Do you remember from early days of cartoons, the reference to Eat at Joe’s? I wondered if that was just faulty memory. Today there is no such thing as a memory lapse, when the answer is just a click away. I was happy to read the following:
Joe’s Diner was a popular Los Angeles eatery in the 1940s, and Eat at Joe’s evolved from Hollywood people who enjoyed eating there. It was often included in Looney Tunes.
I was thinking about that sign, because it’s clear that somewhere in my Wild Kingdom, there is an Eat at Marsha’s sign looming, I just can’t see it.
Today started out pretty much like most days, except it’s the day after Christmas and I have consumed way too many carbs for the past few days. I think a self imposed restriction on carbs is in order. I wonder how that will play out since I’m going to a nice place for lunch today with the girls in the Marina. Read between the lines, it always includes French fries as an appetizer and dessert; we’re celebrating a November birthday, don’t ask!
You can get a combo trio, which I did. Clam Chowder, (no calories?) 1/2 sandwich with applewood bacon; and who cares what else on toast, and a spinach salad with goat cheese and a lite vinaigrette, but of course! Skipped any wine or beer, I’ve been cold all day, actually had hot tea.
The shared dessert included churros with whipping cream, caramel sauce and pineapple ice cream, and a mud pie. I don’t eat chocolate, so that part I skipped. What kind of reduced diet would you call this???
That’s just a little back story to my exceptionally cool day! I had a first time experience in The Yard. It’s not unusual for Sylvia to be waiting at the door for her peanut breakfast that she takes from my hand; this has been going on for a long time.
Today I was listening to the tweeting and chirping; when the familiar screeching of the scrub jays also filled the air. They don’t come every day, but when they do, I’m so excited! I’m about to make my point…for the very first time, EVER, I held out a peanut and the jay took it from my finger tips! Are you kidding?? Where was the film crew? This was like Christmas all over again in my crazy Wild Kingdom. You’re just going to have to trust me on this one. I don’t have a picture to prove it!
He comes right up to the sliding door.
I’ve been lamenting for blogs now how the neighborhood cats have been hanging around! It has to be because of the invisibile sign, right? Many of my well meaning friends have suggested I abandon the feeding table and have feeders that hang in the trees. Let me point out that faulty advice.
Fraidy cat on the fence; I see him LOUD and CLEAR.
So does the jay!
Sylvia, sitting on the same fence!
There goes Simba…
Now we’ve got Sylvia and Simba. He appears to be ignoring her.
I guess they’re friends.
But wait, there’s more. It’s too bad, I’m getting all this reflection off my glass door, but “Bradley” Cooper Hawk is back; and Sweet Sylvia is dumber than dirt!
You don’t suppose that Fraidy and Simba are up in the tree, do you? Or…
Maybe he’s just gazing at Sylvia; they’re having a relationship now!
You lookin at me?
No sir officer, I’m just wondering if the sun will come out tomorrow!
Meanwhile, around the “water cooler” lighter hearts prevail!
Yep, just another day in my Wild Kingdom!
