Kelly Harland, Singer and Author 6/4/2018

Meet my friend, Kelly Harland.  Kelly will be my guest on the Born To Talk Radio Show on Monday, June 4, 2018 starting at 1:00 PT.
Kelly is a wife, mother, entertainer and author.

Kelly and I have known each other since the 7th grade. I remember she was one of the girls in school that could always sing. From the Airport Junior High Girls Glee Club to the Westchester High School Acapella Choir, we knew her then as Kelly Kidman and she was a star!
Kelly’s impressive singing career began at age 16 when she performed under the stars at the Hollywood Bowl to an audience of 3,000. An L.A. native, Kelly had won a statewide contest for young musicians and a chance to perform two songs with a big band conducted by Nelson Riddle. Backstage that night she took a small, sepia-toned photo of her Dad as a young man in the 1920s, tucked it into her yellow chiffon gown for good luck, and walked out on stage. Her father, a jazz drummer, had passed away a year and a half before her big night. She launched into an old standard and the band rang out behind her. “I had been singing from the age of six,” she says, “but in the excitement of that night I realized that this was all I wanted to do.” She collected a top award, and was on her way.
Kelly’s singing life is only a part of her career in the arts. As a record producer she has been at the helm of several recent CDs, for singer Michelle Wallis.
We will have fun reminiscing about the “good old days” as she shares her stories about her early career and the successful career she has had in the Northwest.  Music is not the only subject we will be talking about.
She has also published a book about her son Will, “A Will of His Own: Reflections on Parenting a Child With Autism.”  Why did she write this parenting book? Kelly will  share and inspire us about Will as she and her husband navigated through his fears, anxieties, and obsessions in those early years.

I’m sure you will enjoy her story. She has much to share and I can’t wait for you to meet her!
